Topps took a different approach for the third installment of the Topps Throwback Thursday online exclusive baseball card set. Instead of using a classic baseball card set, as was done for the first two weeks, the trading card giant opted to feature six players on the 1958 TV Westerns card design.
Some alterations were needed to accommodate a complete genre shift with the design. Where show titles once appeared on the card, the word Flamethrower now appears as all six of this week’s cards feature top pitchers. The pitchers included in this set are Nolan Ryan, Clayton Kershaw, Noah Syndergaard, Jake Arrieta, Stephen Strasburg, and Madison Bumgarner.
Cards can be purchased for one week via the Topps website and are very popular on the secondary market as printing numbers are capped at the total number sold.
