The Hollywood Reporter is reporting from Hollywood that Adult Swim has renewed the popular cartoon Rick and Morty for 70 more episodes.

As of the renewal announcement, the show created by Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland has produced only 31 episodes meaning this renewal will more than triple the current run and will also bring the show to the 100 milestone, critical for syndication.

Rick and Morty first aired in December 2013 with an 11 episode first season. Seasons two and three both had 10 episode runs and were released in 2015 and 2017 respectively. At their current rate of release, it will take 14 years to release these 70 episodes.

There is no official timetable for release nor is it clear whether the 10 episode season model will continue or if future seasons will have more content.

The show, which follows the exploits of alcoholic mad scientist Rick Sanchez and his grandson Morty Smith through inter-dimensional adventures, has a devoted cult following in key demographics and is one of Adult Swim’s most popular shows.

In 2017, the popularity of the series surpassed major network juggernauts in the coveted 18-34 age group — a demo with high value to advertisers.

The extended run of the show will also have an impact on the collectibles market as new episodes inspire new figures from Funko, Kidrobot and countless other companies. Be sure to check in with Hero Habit for continued coverage of the show and the collectibles market surrounding it.
