The New York Mets were founded in 1962 to replace the Brooklyn Dodgers and the New York Giants who had moved to Los Angeles and San Francisco respectively. The team colors, blue and orange, are a combination of the Giants and Dodgers team colors.

Their inaugural season set a record for the worst record in the 162 game era (40-120) but just a few years later, in 1969, the team would win their first of two World Series titles - the second coming in 1984.
