Pee-Wee's Playhouse is a legendary Saturday morning children's show which ran for 45 episodes over five seasons between 1986 and 1990.
The character of Pee-Wee Herman was created by Paul Reubens for a stage show in the early 80s, was the title character of a 1985 Tim Burton film, and eventually became a cultural phenomenon with more movies, and an animated series.
Playhouse is notable not only for its irreverence and break-neck speed but also for it's amazing cast of actors which featured a young Laurence Fishburne, Phil Hartman, Natasha Lyonne, and Lynne Marie Stewart.
The series managed to simultaneously embrace retro children's show tropes with puppets, cowboys, and princesses while cementing itself as a uniquely 1980s production with set and character designs that are instantly recognizable of their time.
The show was nominated for and won several Daytime Emmy awards, all for technical categories but never won for acting or the overall show despite being critically acclaimed.
Over the years, an extensive variety of toys and collectibles have been released to commemorate the show including a small series of trading cards, action figures, and Funko Pops.
